The National Service Scheme (NSS) is a Central Sector Scheme of the Government of India, managed under the Ministry of Youth Affairs & Sports. Formally launched on September 24, 1969—the birth centenary year of Mahatma Gandhi—the scheme operates on the core philosophy of "Education through Service."
NSS aims to develop students' personalities, character, and leadership skills by involving them directly in meaningful community service and social development projects.
Motto & Symbol
* Motto: "NOT ME, BUT YOU" This motto reflects the spirit of democratic living, selfless service, and placing the welfare of the community above oneself.
• Symbol: Inspired by the giant Konark Sun Temple wheel. The 8 bars in the wheel represent the 24 hours of the day, signalling a round-the-clock readiness to serve the nation. The red colour signifies the passion and energy of youth, while the navy blue stands for the cosmos.

Volunteer Commitment & Requirements
Enrolling as an NSS volunteer is a two-year commitment:
• Regular Activities: Complete a minimum of 120 service hours per academic year (total 240 hours over 2 years) through campus drives, awareness campaigns, and field projects.
• Special Camp: Participate in one mandatory 7-day residential camp organised in an adopted village or local urban slum.
Upon successfully completing the required hours and camp, volunteers receive an official NSS Certificate, which carries weight for higher education applications, government incentives, and job recruitments.
Major Activities & Initiatives
Regular Campus Activities
* Health & Wellness: Blood donation drives, health screening camps, and mental health awareness workshops.
* Environmental Action: Tree plantation drives ("One Student, One Tree"), campus cleanliness initiatives (Swachh Bharat Abhiyan), and electronic/plastic waste management.
* Social Awareness: Rallies, street plays (Nukkad Natak), and workshops on gender equality, road safety, digital literacy, and anti-substance abuse.
* Community Outreach: Visits to orphanages and old-age homes, teaching underprivileged children, and clothing collection/distribution drives.
National-Level Opportunities
Selected volunteers have the opportunity to represent the institution at prestigious national events:
* Republic Day Parade Camp (New Delhi)
* National Integration Camps (NIC)
* National Youth Festivals & Adventure Camps
How to Join
* Eligibility: Open to all full-time undergraduate and postgraduate students enrolled at the college.
* Enrollment Period: Admissions open during the beginning of every academic year (July–August).
* Selection: Based on a short orientation and registration drive.
